Hi, I have more to do with Physical Security than IT security, but with the convergence of all things onto IP, I have a question for the experienced SysAdmins here.
Are servers hosting video management or access control systems treated the same as those hosting ERP / business critical systems? I'm referring here to the databases of card access details for physical access, although in larger systems this will be connected to the AD so may get sucked into there. When it comes to upgrades, are they given the same priority? What about budgets if the server is getting close to full - is it treated as being of equal importance or is it a bit of a poor relative. How much awareness or overview do you have of physical security - do you see parallels with your areas of IT security, or is it managed entirely separately within your organisation?
Can I also ask the same question about BIM systems or SCADA-type networks. I know the standard answer is that SCADA won't be connected to the internet, but has that always been your actual experience? Thanks for any feedback.
