OK, here's an InfoWorld article where a writer suggests "soft white lists" as an option to software blocking.
The writer writes "I've long been a fan of whitelisting (aka application control) programs. ... despite the fact that most organizations don't or can't activate whitelisting for political reasons." Yeah, that describes where I work pretty well.
Can I use SpiceWorks for this or should I use Windows or one of the other programs listed in the article? Has anybody's Spiceworks installation ever found a virus/trojan? Rootkit? -- That last one seems a like a little much to expect.
Anyways, I don't know how SW does what it does, so I'm wondering. Seems like it would need to be an agent, but don't know, so asking.
