ok, so heres the situation. My user is a remote user, he has an HP Probook 6450b Win7 x64.
We received a support ticket from this user complaining of music randomly playing on his computer. He said it sounded very confusing and he was not able to get it to turn off. I was thinking maybe he had put some personal music on there as i had seen this before on his laptop. Soooo, i finally got a hold of the laptop today, and as soon as I'm signed in i get the "demon music"
its not necessarily music so much as it is a combination of radio ads, radio transition sounds, and other assorted background music and sound effects. All of these sounds playing over top of each other randomly and every once in a while cutting out completely. I hear ads for Verizon, mixed with chef boyardee, meow mix, and a radio station ad i cant quite make out. This all being in the first 10 minutes I had it on.
I ran an AVG scan and no threats were found as well.
I looked at the running applications and processes through the task manager and did not see any irregularities. I then opened his windows media player and saw nothing. Looked to see if he had installed itunes or some other music player. Nothing. I then ran some "important" updates and let it restart, same thing, demon music came back. I've also noticed that the battery is saying it needs replaced, so i swapped it with a known good battery, same message "replace battery soon"
So, i've sent him off with a new laptop and now have this one in possession "hopefully it wont possess me"
Where do I start? where should I be looking? and has anyone had this demon music occur before? maybe some exorcism help is needed?
your comments and help are greatly appreciated!!!
please move to appropriate group
