The President of our company received an email from our ISP and stated that a company has filed a complaint against our company for copyright infringement. She contacted our ISP and they stated that it was a legitimate case and that we needed to look into it.
I have looked over the email and it seems that someone was downloading some adult material via a bit torrent. It has a date and time of when it was done and has some links along what we need to do. I believe that it was a student that was downloading the material because we don't allow any installation of programs, and don't see any records of a utorrent (stated in the email) being installed on any company computers. Perhaps the student started the download and home and it continued on our WiFi when they were here.
Questions I have are:
- Is there any way to find out which computer downloaded the file
- I have a WatchGuard XTM 330 firewall, but do not have a content filtering subscription
- If it was a student that downloaded this, is our company still held responsible
I will be talking with our ISP tomorrow to start the process of getting this resolved, but wanted to get a head start of some of this. Has anyone had to deal with this before?
