I was working on some configurations on my Cisco ASA Firewall and noticed in the syslogs that a multitude of outside ICMP requests are being denied by the firewall, (as they should be.) Curious as to who was trying to ping me, I ran a whois on some of the IP addresses. A few were from my ISP which I expected, but I noticed that the majority of ICMP requests are coming from areas within the Russian Federation. Why are they pinging my IP address so frequently?
Paranoid? Possibly, but I have never had so many hits from this area of the world.
Any comments, suggestions or poking-of-fun?
