SNMP - How do you manage it?

I wondered if I could pick some minds on best practises at managing SNMP please?

You know the drill, you buy a switch, an appliance, a printer, lots of things and they almost always come with SNMP enabled as the default.

AIUI there's an information disclosure risk here, but I don't know enough about SNMP to know quite how large a risk it is (I appreciate the nature of the environment helps dictates the risk).

I'd really appreciate any real world examples of how you handle SNMP.
