GFI Languard 2012 - the most craptacular piece of s...ecurity software?

Hello,

Any GFI Languard users out there? Just wondering is it me or is Languard 2012 the worst piece of software I have come upon on recent years. I have previously used the Languard 9.6 and it was a pretty good program. It's like they have meanwhile outsourced the development to Symantec or something...

It's dead slow. No matter where I put it - to a average core 2 machine or 8 core xeon, it's still painfully slow in a same way. Everything basically it does is in slow motion. Gui is pain to use, scans take forever, after deploying agents users have started to complain about slowdowns etc. I even moved it to separate SQL back-end, but it's still the same. With 9.6 I could scan the whole domain in couple of hours, but with 2012 I do not even wan to bother to try that because it takes whole day to scan couple of workstations.

Client deployment routine is worst I have ever seen. First you have to mess around in gpo to open ports and push out scripts that modify firewall behavior. Then deploying clients takes forever and as soon as they are deployed they start to complain that they can't connect to server. Doh! Every other remote admin product I've seen from Solarwinds/Dameware, Netsupport, ESET, etc can deploy itself without any fuss and make all the needed changes to become instantly functional. And then there are problems with the server service itself constantly stopping for no reason. It just stops and that's it.

Scans halt without reason quite often. Moreover they tend to be wildly inaccurate at some places. For example I have yet to see a port scan that would return correct results. This of course screws up the security evaluation score. And yes, I have tried other port scanners that report things as they are.

Patch deployment - the main function of the program - is just broken. There are constant problems with deployments failing without any reason and client timing out. Increasing timeout window does not help at all. The rights are ok, the connection is ok, the patches are copied ok, but it still fails. Several times I have felt back to free Admin Arsenal PDQ Deploy to push out patches. It just works. Languard 9.6 never failed too.

Wake-On-Lan implementation is plain useless. And yes, Spiceworks, EMC WakeOnLan Free etc just work fine.

And I could go on and on...

I just can't even remember when was the last time I had such a frustrating software experience. And it's not that I haven't checked and double checked the settings, tried the included diagnostic app (that says that everything is ok), tried to do same thing with competing software (which works) etc.

Every time I open Languard 2012 I start pulling my hair out. Today I was back in office after almost a month-long vacation and after using it for a day I already feel like my whole vacation has been undone.
