I'm currently interested in finding out if anyone knows of a Virus and Malware repository in which I can download known infections on test machines to measure our capabilities in detecting and removing these infections.
I've seen a lot of different types of malware and other such infections, and I've seen a lot of different methods in removing it or securing our machines against them. What I'd like to do is to find a few particular items so that I can test those abilities. I'm going to be measuring the results so that I can try to gauge just how involved some of these processes might be, and how long it could take to resolve the issues. I'm also interested in testing out various methods to see which might result in the quickest turnaround, or most accurate identification and protection.
If anyone happens to know of any such repository so that I can do this, I'd appreciate any information you might have. I can also understand why you might not want to publicize these repositories, so if you'd prefer to PM me with details that would work for me. I'd prefer not to just go browsing around the internet clicking on ads until I finally get infected, as that could take quite some time and I'd rather just cut right to the chase. This would also make it easier to identify the best methods for specific types of infections and not just a generalized glob of them.
