I posted this originally on the end of an existing thread that had a best answer but figured it would probably be best on its own.
My question is, is there something like TrueCrypt or DiskCryptor that doesnt require me to run a version of the software on the machine that I want to mount the encrypted volume on? I'm wanting to encrypt our nightly offsite USB3.0 backups but be allowed the flexibility to mount the device on any machine and then enter the decryption key thus allowing access to the complete volume.
My understanding of Truecrypt thus far (in the 3 hours I've been playing with it) is that I would need to install a copy of the program on each machine that wishes to mount the volume and thus browse the partition, from our backup perspective we need the flexibility to be able to use any machine in the event of DR. Any ideas? Open source is preferred but I understand you get what you pay for!
