With the rise of 3-D printing and smart phones everyone has the ability to make a copy of keys in seconds. New apps likeKeyMeandKeys Duplicatedcan make it incredibly easy to make copies of your keys. Simply take a photo and they mail you a 3-D printed copy in minutes. In some cities you can walk to a KeyMe kiosk and get a key made.The trouble is now others can as well.
Do you hand the valet the entire set of keys? Oops. Did you leave your keys sitting out when you ran to the restroom. I suppose keys are old fashioned passwords - just really hard to change.
The new keylocks that have bluetooth support likeKevoandSchlagestill have key overrides. New systems likeAugust,lockitron, andGojidon't have key overrides.
